FAQs
The Google Research Early Access Pool is an opt-in database of individuals who are interested in participating in testing and research studies conducted by Google researchers. By signing up, you allow us to contact you when a project or study matches your background and interests.
We welcome anyone aged 18 or older to sign up. Our goal is to gather a diverse pool of subject matter experts across various fields, technical skill levels, career stages, and professional backgrounds.
Your feedback helps Google researchers, designers, and developers understand how people use our products, what challenges they face, and how we can make technology more accessible, useful, and intuitive for everyone.
We conduct several types of studies depending on the research goals:
- Research experiments: Testing on early-access, pre-release experiments.
- Usability studies: Try out new designs, features, or prototype apps.
- Surveys: Complete online questionnaires about your habits, preferences, and experiences.
- Interviews: One-on-one conversations (remote or in-person) discussing how you use technology.
- Focus groups: Guided discussions with a small group of participants.
We offer both! When signing up, you can specify your preference. Remote studies are conducted via Google Meet video calls, while in-person studies take place at one of our local Google offices.
Joining the pool does not mean you will be contacted immediately or frequently. We will only reach out when we have a study that matches the specific profile or criteria needed for a research topic. You are always free to accept or decline any study invitation.
If an experiment catches your eye, you can express interest via a link that will be shared with you through email.
Yes! For most studies that require a specific time commitment (such as interviews, focus groups, or usability tests), you will receive a token of appreciation for your time and feedback.
Important: The exact type and amount of compensation vary by study length and complexity. We will always disclose the compensation details in the invitation email before you agree to participate.
We take participant privacy very seriously. The information you provide when signing up (name, contact info, demographics) is used solely to match you with appropriate research studies. We will never sell your information or use it for marketing or advertising purposes.
Yes, absolutely. You can opt out of the Google Research Open User Pool at any time. Every email we send contains a direct link to unsubscribe and request the deletion of your profile from the pool database.
